Document/Jewellery Box

The Document/Jewellery box course takes you through the process of hand-cut dovetail joints, basic veneering, inlay work, fitting of hinges, locks and escutcheons. Choice of Jarrah or Blackbutt. Tasmanian Blackwood or She Oak - extra $20.00

 
Veneering
(4 Saturdays)

July 17th, 18th,24th and 31st 9am to 4pm with 1 hour lunchbreak.

The veneering course takes the student through the exciting process of creating their own veneers from solid stock, matching, edging, stitching and finally pressing them. You will learn how to work substrates, lippings, cross-bandings, glues and vacuum presses.

You will make an exquisitely patterned table top to finish off the Hall Table Base project. For those who don’t wish to make the Hall Table top, may choose to make a square or rectangular top not exceeding 0.45 m2.

 
Hall Table Base
(4 Saturdays)

June 12th, 19th, 26th and July 3rd 9am to 4pm with 1 hour lunchbreak.

This elegant Hall Table introduces the student to a wide range of furniture making practices, such as wedged mortise-and-tenon joints, leg tapering, table top fixing methods and more. Choice of Jarrah or Blackbutt. Tasmanian Blackwood – extra $40.00. Dimensions: 1200 x 360 x 800.

Please note:
Only the base is made over the 4 days with the student having the option to make a solid timber top on the following, ‘Catch-up’ Day, Saturday 12th July. ($180.00) Alternatively, the student may opt to make an exquisite veneered top in the Veneering Course. (See below)

 
‘Zazen’ Chest of Drawers
(6 Saturdays & 2 Sundays)

August 21st and 28th Sept 4th, 11th, 18th and 19th, 25th and 26th 9am to 4pm with 1 hour lunchbreak.

This delightful, Japanese-inspired little chest of 3 drawers is the ultimate course in carcase construction methods. It takes the student through various aspects of frame-and-panel work, spindle shaping, lathe work, and the very complex and demanding process of drawer design, construction and fitting. This course is primarily designed to teach the student how to tackle much larger case piece projects in the future. Choice of Jarrah or Blackbutt. Tasmanian Blackwood – extra $50.00
