Tuning/sharpening workshop $330
Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st July 2011 9am to 4pm with 1 hour lunch break.
Neil will go through various sharpening techniques to achieve gleaming, super sharp cutting edges and how to tune and set-up your plane to take the finest of shavings. Neil will also show you how to get that perfect edge on your cabinet scraper. Participants should bring along a plane, chisels and scraper. Class limited to 8.

Saturday mornings 9 – 12am 22nd Oct, 5th & 19th Nov, 3rd & 17th December
2011 9am to 12am with 1 hour lunch break.
After much pressure from past participants, Just Joints classes are ready to resume.
This time, ESCA will run two, five session classes, one on alternate Tuesdays and
the other on alternate Saturdays. Tuesday night classes will continue with previous
students with more advanced joints, while Saturday classes will be for Just Joints
beginners.
Join Neil to explore and practice handmade joints of every description. These classes
are for those wishing to improve and perfect their hand skills, and to get a better
understanding of appropriate joinery, and joint design. These sessions will be
thoroughly relaxing, ‘unplugged’ and quiet – so, come and unwind and relax.
Participants are encouraged to bring along their own cutting tools, however, ESCA
does have a full kit in each bench for those who need them. Email to secure your
place.
Joints that will be covered:
1. Through dovetail,
2. Through dovetail with mitred edges,
3. Half blind dovetail,
4. Plain mortise and tenon,
5. Through, wedged twin mortise and tenon joints

29th & 30th October 2011 9am to 4pm – 12 hours with 1 hour lunch break.
This is an ideal course for the inexperienced through to the more advanced
woodworker. Neil will take the participant through the process of hand planing &
hand-cut mortise and tenon joints to produce this essential piece of workshop
equipment. The water-stone box holds 3 water-stones.

On this 5 day course, Neil will cover all aspects of the theory of dining chair design and the practical details of construction. Each student takes home an ergonomically designed, fully mortise and tenoned, upholstered Jarrah chair.
